We had worked with Wheeling University President Ginny Favede on other design and construction projects in the past, from the new Senior Services Facility in St. Clairsville to the Ohio Valley Construction Employers Council facility renovations in Wheeling.  Project Design Manager Tim Crowley notes that: “Each project has been a success, but this project is even more special to me because Wheeling University holds a very special place in my heart, as it helped shape me into the person that I am today. Having been a student at Wheeling University in the late 80’s, I was honored when Wheeling University President Ginny Favede reached out to us to help out with the design for the renovations to the Benendum dining hall.  We were even more excited when, through our discussions and onsite meetings, we learned of the potential to transform the space to serve as not only the dining hall but also the student union facility!  As we explored design options to provide for varied dining seating options, we were able to introduce cool design features like multiple lounge areas, pergolas, live edge tables and even a cutting edge hi-tech water vapor fireplace feature!  The time available to bring the project to life from drawing to reality was tight and our entire team, including the Interior Designers from Aster Industries and the contractors from JD&E, Inc., all worked incredibly hard to make it happen.  I was even on site late on the Friday evening that the students returned to campus to install the live edge wood tables I had worked on. It was incredible to see the energy and excitement from the students who were already making “The Cardinal’s Nest” a special place of their very own.  It brought back a lot of wonderful memories!”
